Iloilo police chiefs are on a month-long deadline to demonstrate their capability, with potential consequences for underperformance.
Colonel Bayani Razalan, chief of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), has initiated a performance evaluation starting April 19, the day he assumed his post, which will continue until May 18.
“Are you up to the task? If not, I could recommend their relief,” Razalan stated, noting that while he cannot directly issue relief and reassignment orders, he can recommend to the PNP regional director that non-performing officers be relieved.
“After that, I and the IPPO staff will discuss their performance. If they performed below par, we would make them explain,” Razalan added.
He emphasized that deliberate poor performance would lead to decisive action.
“But if the lousy performance was deliberately done, I would not hesitate to let them go.”
Additionally, Razalan said that maintaining a good working relationship with local chief executives and completing a two-year stint are also crucial factors in the evaluation.
Since assuming his role at the IPPO, two officers have been relieved due to their impending retirement and opting to avail of non-duty status, according to Razalan.
