Int’l Travelers Urged to Self-Isolate Amid COVID-19 Surge

The Iloilo City government is urging travelers arriving from several Asian countries to self-isolate following a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the region.

In an advisory on Thursday, May 29, the City Health Office called on individuals returning from Hong Kong, Singapore, China and Thailand to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures.

These countries have recently reported a notable increase in COVID-19 cases.

“If you are experiencing any respiratory symptoms, we strongly urge you to seek medical consultation without delay and to self-isolate for at least five days upon arrival in Iloilo City,” the CHO said.

As of May 28, the CHO reported two active COVID-19 cases, while 29 individuals have recovered from the virus.

While testing is not mandatory, the CHO strongly encouraged travelers to avail themselves of the free COVID-19 testing at the USWAG Molecular Laboratory in Molo district.

“Your prompt action and cooperation are vital in protecting not only your health but also the well-being of our entire community,” the advisory added.

Common COVID-19 symptoms include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, new loss of taste or smell, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Symptoms typically appear two to 14 days after exposure and can range from mild to severe.
