BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Provincial Legal Officer Alberto Nellas Jr., said Thursday that they are looking at the possibility that the disappearance of the 789 bags of fertilizer worth P2.367 million from the warehouse of the provincial government in Barangay Tabunan, Bago City was an inside job.
“There was no forced entry,” Nellas told reporters here.
He further confirmed that the PLO received an incident report from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist about the alleged disappearance of the fertilizer in October 2022.
“We just received it on April 3, 2023, we are still verifying the allegations, especially with the persons involved, this is for the purpose of issuing a show cause order,” Nellas further said.
Nellas also said that the fertilizer was a grant from the Department of Agriculture with the provincial government tasked to distribute it to local governments.
He said the “disappearance” of the fertilizer was discovered after the municipal government of Cauayan went to the warehouse to withdraw their share and found the warehouse empty.
Nellas said they are looking at the possible connivance of several personnel from the OPA and the security personnel tasked to secure the warehouse.
Nellas said the “missing fertilizer” was never recovered.
The personnel involved Nellas said were already reshuffled as initial action of OPA pending the result of the investigation.
