An 8-month-old baby boy died in a road crash involving a motorcycle and a tricycle on the morning of July 14 in Dumangas, Iloilo.
The infant died after being thrown from his uncle’s arms during the collision.
The incident occurred along Barangay Sulangan and also injured seven people, including the drivers of both vehicles.
The baby and the other victims were rushed to the hospital, but the infant did not survive.
Police Executive Master Sgt. Kim John Banzon, Dumangas police investigator, said the other victims sustained only minor injuries and were not confined.
Police reports said the tricycle was driven by a 53-year-old man identified only as “Rodel,” while the motorcycle was operated by a 15-year-old boy.
The teenager, a high school student, was reportedly on his way home from the town proper after giving a relative a ride.
He allegedly lost control of the motorcycle and skidded into the middle of the road.
The motorcycle slid and collided with the tricycle, which was traveling in the opposite lane.
The impact caused the motorcycle to flip, and the infant was thrown from his uncle’s arms.
The uncle was reportedly bringing the baby to his mother because the child’s mother, who is a person with disability, could not care for him.
Banzon said the minor has been turned over to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office for proper handling of his case.
