BACOLOD CITY — Personal grudges and a business conflict allegedly drove an Indian national to shoot his 42-year-old sister-in-law and three others in Hacienda Buyong-Buyong Road, Barangay Bagtic, Silay City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday.
Police Lt. Col. Edison Garcia, chief of the Silay City Police Station, said the victim — an Indian businesswoman and resident of Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City — was riding a motorcycle with her 45-year-old driver when she was shot past 10 a.m.
She sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach and managed to seek help from a passing passenger multi-cab.
The suspect noticed the victim aboard the multi-cab, followed the vehicle, and allegedly continued firing.
Three passengers were also hit: a 52-year-old farmer and a 50-year-old farmer, both struck in the right arm, and a 76-year-old man hit in the right arm and chest. All are residents of Silay City.
The businesswoman’s motorcycle driver also sustained abrasions on the left hand after losing control of the motorcycle and falling to the ground.
Garcia said all victims were brought to Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City and are in stable condition.
A pursuit operation is ongoing for the fleeing suspect.
Garcia said the suspect had also attempted to kill his sister-in-law the previous year, but no charges were filed after the parties reached a settlement.
