ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) is planning to give incentives to all tanods (village police) in the 47 barangays of the city.
City Councilor Jericho Angel L. Celino proposed the benefit during the City Council’s regular session on Oct 15, 2019.
Celino said tanods have a big role in the maintenance of peace and security of the community despite the risk they face.
In the proposed ordinance, tanods will enjoy P10,000 insurance coverage with the city government paying for the premiums.
Tanods who want to avail of the benefits must undertake training or orientation to be jointly conducted by the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and other related agencies.
Also, tanods shall perform intelligence gathering with a monthly allowance of P200.
Celino recalled that when he was the village chief of San Jose here, he spent his own money for the allowances of their tanods.
