Residents of Guimbal town in southern Iloilo can now make use of the 2-storey public market building undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Iloilo 1st District Engineering Office.
The ₱49.2-million project, which started in March 2021 and completed in December 2022, spans 768 square meters and has 32 stalls to cater to supplies and necessities of the approximately 7,470 households in the town.
Citing a report from District Engineer Randolfo A. Melosantos, DPWH Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno said the building will accommodate a larger selling space, roll-up doors, a viewing deck, better ventilation, and lighting.
“The renovated public market building will boost the municipality’s economy and generate additional revenue streams that will showcase the community’s local culture,” Bueno said.
“The completion of this structure is also expected to increase the growth and consumption of local agricultural enterprises,” Bueno added.
The MPB project was inaugurated on January 22, 2023, in the presence of local executives, residents, and representatives from the DPWH Iloilo 1st DEO. (DPWH-6)
