Improved Kabankalan-Bais Road enhances travel efficiency and convenience in Negros Occidental

Better mobility, convenient travel experience, and cost-efficient delivery of local and agricultural products to market hubs in southern Negros Occidental will benefit the public with the improved and widened Kabankalan-Bais Road.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Negros Occidental 3^rd District Engineering Office undertakes continuous road widening and improvement activities to provide more convenient, faster, and safer transportation access.

In his report to Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno, District Engineer Rodney A. Gustilo said the District has recently completed the widening along the two specific road sections in Brgy. Tagukon in Kabankalan City with a collective amount of ₱63.33 million.

“With this improved and widened road, domestic tourism in the southern part of Negros Occidental is expected to bolster, encouraging more local and foreign tourists to visit various magnificent destinations in the area,” Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno said.

“This will likewise facilitate easy transportation of agricultural products from farms to the market as a lower hauling cost that will eventually help alleviate the economic condition of the farmers and local residents,” RD Bueno added.

In addition, DE Rodney A. Gustilo said the improved road benefits farmers and agricultural producers from the southwest portion of Kabankalan City, providing faster mobility of people and cost-efficient delivery of products to market hubs.

“The development of this national road is suitable for huge volume of vehicles transporting agricultural and other local products. This will also provide a more comfortable and safer journey for motorists and the traveling public to and from various cities and towns in the southern part of Negros Occidental,” DE Gustilo said.

The ₱29.08-million road improvement project includes widening from two (2) to four (4) lanes of Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP) along the 880-lineal meter road portion.

Another ₱34.15 million was poured for the reconstruction of concrete pavement of the existing 979-lineal meter long, 6.1-meter wide, 4-lane road portion.

Both sections include the provision of grouted riprap, reinforced concrete box culverts, and stone masonry. Warning and hazard markers and thermoplastic pavement markings were also installed for the safety of motorists and pedestrians. (DPWH-6)
