Sara, Iloilo—A groundbreaking ceremony was recently held for the construction of a state-of-the-art sports complex at Northern Iloilo State University (NISU), which is poised to become the largest of its kind on Panay Island.
The project, spearheaded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6, is expected to significantly boost the local infrastructure and promote athletic excellence in the region.
The sports complex will cover a 3,064-square-meter area and include a 400-meter track field and a 10,346-square-meter football field, providing ample space for various athletic events.
Once completed, it is expected to attract not only students and faculty but also sports enthusiasts and tourists from across the island.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, DPWH 6 Assistant Regional Director Jose Al V. Fruto, representing Regional Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel, highlighted the project’s potential impact on the community.
“This sports complex will be a game-changer for our community. It will provide students and faculty with top-tier sports amenities and has the potential to attract tourists and sports enthusiasts from across Panay Island,” Fruto said.
OIC-District Engineer Robert S. Palmera emphasized the broader significance of the project, noting that it is a substantial step forward in enhancing the province’s infrastructure and encouraging a healthier lifestyle among residents.
“This project is a beacon of progress for NISU and the surrounding towns. It will foster renewed interest in sports among the youth, promote physical education, and serve as a venue for significant regional sports events,” Palmera added. (DPWH)
