Iloilo police warn against sharing unverified school threats

ILOILO CITY — The Iloilo City Police Office has called on the public to be responsible in handling unverified reports about threats involving schools and learners.
The appeal followed reports of online threats involving two public schools in Iloilo City.
Police Col. Wilbert Parilla, Iloilo City police chief, said authorities are taking the matter seriously.
Appropriate security measures have been implemented, while police visibility has been intensified at the schools concerned.
Parilla said police also coordinated with school administrators and the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 6 as the investigation continues.
“We appeal to the public to remain calm and, most importantly, be responsible in sharing information online. Let us refrain from spreading unverified posts, screenshots, or speculations that may cause unnecessary fear, panic, and confusion,” Parilla said.
He also assured the public that police are taking every reasonable precaution to ensure the safety of students, teachers and school personnel.
“The investigation is ongoing, and authorities continue to verify the information and identify the person behind the reported post,” he added.
While the investigation is ongoing, Parilla urged the public to exercise caution in sharing and reporting suspicious information.
Parilla said sharing unsubstantiated reports often fuels fear and unease.
Screenshots of an alleged planned school shooting made the rounds on social media Sunday evening.
A Facebook user urged the public to take extra precautions and ensure the safety of their children.
The user claimed to have received a message Sunday evening about alleged shooting threats involving two public high schools in Iloilo City.
The warning comes as ICPO and the Iloilo City Schools Division have stepped up coordination on campus security, including police visibility, access controls, early reporting of threats and emergency response procedures.
