Iloilo police seize PHP 4.9 million in suspected shabu

ILOILO CITY — Around PHP 4.9 million worth of suspected shabu, or crystal methamphetamine, was confiscated during a weeklong anti-drug campaign in Iloilo province.

From Aug. 1 to 7, the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) conducted seven intelligence-driven operations that led to the confiscation of approximately 724 grams of suspected shabu.

The valuation is consistent with the PHP 6,800-per-gram standard drug price used by law enforcement agencies.

The operations resulted in the arrest of nine people who were charged with violating Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Police classified seven of those arrested as high-value individuals and two as street-level individuals.

Police Col. Bayani Razalan, Iloilo police chief, attributed the high-value operations to the commitment, sacrifice and professionalism of IPPO personnel.

“The relentless fight against illegal drugs continues. Let us work together with the community to sustain our gains. With them at our side, surely those individuals opted to engaged in the illegal trade will be facing the consequences of their actions,” he said.

Razalan assured the public that the IPPO would continue its intensified law enforcement operations and community-based programs.

He also urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious activities in their communities to the police.
