Iloilo police arrest tricycle driver accused of rape

ILOILO CITY — A tricycle driver accused of rape was arrested in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, on the afternoon of Aug. 25, 2026.
Police identified the suspect only as “Rey,” a 51-year-old married resident of Barotac Nuevo.
Members of the Barotac Nuevo Municipal Police Station’s tracker team arrested the suspect in Barangay Tinuri-an.
The team served a warrant alleging rape by carnal knowledge under Article 266-A(1), in relation to Article 266-B, of the Revised Penal Code.
The provisions were introduced under Republic Act No. 8353, or the Anti-Rape Law of 1997, which expanded the legal definition of rape and reclassified it as a crime against persons.
The Regional Trial Court of the Sixth Judicial Region, Branch 68, in P.D. Monfort North, Dumangas, Iloilo, issued the arrest warrant on July 31, 2024.
The warrant did not recommend bail for the suspect’s temporary release.
Police identified the suspect as Barotac Nuevo’s No. 1 most wanted person.
“Malaking bahagi ng ating kampanya laban sa mga wanted person ang maagap na impormasyon at pakikipagtulungan ng komunidad. Hinihikayat natin ang publiko na patuloy na makipagtulungan sa kapulisan upang mas mabilis nating matunton ang mga taong may pananagutan sa batas,” Police Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño, director of Police Regional Office 6, said.
Police said Rey was among 18 people arrested within 24 hours.
The Regional Operational Accomplishment Report showed that PRO-6 units conducted 19 operations from 6 a.m. Aug. 25 to 5:59 a.m. Aug. 26.
Seventeen of those arrested were classified as other wanted persons, while one was included on the top 10 most wanted persons list.
