As the cliché goes, “a woman is unstoppable after she realizes that she deserves better.”
This is what Colonel Gilbert Gorero, Iloilo police chief, underscored during the launching of the “Babaye Bangon” project on Tuesday, October 20, at Barangay Alabidhan, Bingawan town.
Formally launched on Oct. 1, 2020, Babaye Bangon aims to make the Ilonggo women, particularly VAWC (violence against women and children) victims, more empowered.
Speaking before project beneficiaries in Bingawan, Gorero talked about his support of any initiative which promotes women’s rights and empowerment.
“We want to see you stronger than what you are today. Or, even stronger than you could possibly imagine of yourselves,” he said.
The Bingawan launching was Gorero’s second involvement in Babaye Bangon initiatives since he assumed as officer-in-charge of the IPPO.
While the project was simple to understand, Gorero admitted that he initially had some apprehensions on how to transform the vision of the project into reality.
But all his misgivings were eased following the support shown by local government units.
“With our growing partners on this project, we are optimistic that we can pursue more productive undertakings towards the realization of our vision. We want to see Ilonggo women hurdle their difficult situation,” he said.
The project bolsters the focus of IPPO on the protection and empowerment of women, especially those who have been in difficult situations – the abused, neglected, or exploited.
The project is also expected to provide an avenue for women for healing, regaining their self-worth, and making them more productive.
“Through Babaye Bangon Project, your Iloilo PNP will never stop exploring possibilities to help you help yourselves,” Gorero said.
