Iloilo plans mother-child facility to ease hospital crowding

The Iloilo provincial government has proposed building a dedicated Mother and Child Facility at the Iloilo Provincial Hospital (IPH) to ease congestion in its existing wards.

The proposed two-story facility, designed with an 87-bed capacity, was discussed during a consultative meeting on Feb. 5.

If implemented, the center would house pediatric and obstetrics-gynecology services, including delivery rooms, operating rooms, an emergency room and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Officials said the facility is expected to improve access to safe childbirth and newborn care, particularly for patients referred from towns and cities across the province.

Managed by the provincial government, the Iloilo Provincial Hospital is a Level II facility that serves as a key referral hospital for patients across Iloilo.

The meeting was led by Rep. Lorenz Defensor of Iloilo’s 3rd District and Provincial Administrator Raul Banias.

Representatives from the Provincial Engineering Office, the Office of the Hospital Management Officer, the Department of Health and the Department of Public Works and Highways also attended and provided technical inputs and recommendations.
