Iloilo Marks Earth Hour With Climate Call

Government offices, businesses, and environmental advocates in Iloilo joined the nationwide observance of Earth Hour 2025 on March 22 to promote energy conservation and climate action.

The Iloilo Provincial Government, through the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, spearheaded “Ligum Dulom Year 3” at the Provincial Capitol Grounds.

Activities began at 5 p.m. and culminated in the symbolic lights-off from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Among the participants were the Iloilo Provincial Government, Metro Iloilo Water District, Metro Iloilo Pacific Water, Philippine Red Cross-Iloilo Chapter, Panlalawigang Pederasyon ng mga Sangguniang Kabataan, and the Boy Scouts of the Philippines.

“The 60-minute lights-out may have felt like a split second, but the impact of our collective action will resonate for a long time,” PENRO said in a statement, thanking program partners for their support.

The event featured “Zumba for the Earth” and a cultural performance by the Pughanan Rondalla.

Major establishments, including GT Town Center Pavia and SM City Iloilo, participated by dimming their lights in solidarity with the campaign.

Earth Hour is a global movement led by the World Wildlife Fund, encouraging people to switch off non-essential lights as a symbolic gesture for environmental protection.

In 2024, the Philippines contributed 116,273 hours to the Hour Bank, according to WWF Philippines.
