Iloilo launches climate-resilient socialized housing

The Iloilo provincial government, led by Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., has initiated the Purok Resilience Program in Barangay Nangka, Batad.

The project, unveiled on March 22, focuses on constructing climate-resilient socialized housing for the vulnerable.

Situated on a 5,000-square meter lot in Purok 3, the program will feature 10 buildings, providing 30 units for families in risk zones as defined by the Urban Development and Housing Act.

With a budget of P30 million, these energy-efficient homes will include bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, living areas, and solar panels.

The launch was attended by Mayor Elvira Alarcon, Vice Mayor Ernesto Balida, provincial and local officials, and departmental representatives.

Gov. Defensor highlighted the importance of situating families near their livelihoods while ensuring safety in calamities.

“This initiative goes beyond creating temporary shelters; it’s about offering permanent, secure homes,” Gov. Defensor said.

He added that these measures align with strategies to address the impacts of climate change.

Recipient Rosemarie Hilario Brillantes expressed deep appreciation to the governor and his team for the safety and stability of their new homes.

She emphasized the comfort of having a secure residence amidst unpredictable weather.

The program not only involves housing but also relocates at-risk residents to safer areas near their workplaces.

To support this effort, Gov. Defensor enacted Executive Order No. 333 and No. 486 to reinforce the program’s structure and ensure robust implementation.

Additionally, EO 486 was issued to reconstitute the Iloilo Provincial Inter-Agency Committee on Relocation and Resettlement.
