The Iloilo Kisela Knights looked like a team on a mission after starting their Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) season II “Wesley So Cup Conference” on a high note.
After absorbing a disappointing season I third-place finish, the Kisela Knights bounced back and dominated the Palawan Queen’s Gambit, 18-3.
Queen’s Gambit found themselves fighting an uphill battle after the scorching Kisela Knights jumped into an early lead in the first seven boards of the Blitz category.
Armenian Grandmaster Hovhannes Gabuzyan clinched his first win under team Iloilo in the Rapid category.
GM Gabuzyan’s addition to the Kisela Knights added more firepower with the leadership of GM Joey Antonio Jr. still guiding the team.
It was in the Rapid category where Iloilo was able to pull away with the lopsided victory when all players scored an easy win in their respective boards.
The roster from the first season remains intact with guys like Cherry Ann Mejia, Cesar Mariano, Fritz Bryan Porras, Dennis Bernas, and NM John Michael Silvederio still with the team.
