The Iloilo Kisela Knights managed to outlast the tough Rizal Batch Towers in an inter-division showdown, 13.5-7.5. during the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) season II “Wesley So Cup Conference” Day 9.
Iloilo continued their streak in PCAP, notching at least one win in every matchday since the first season of the pro chess tourney.
NM John Michael Silvederio became a huge factor in the Kisela Knights’ win as the only player to clinch both wins in the Rapid and Blitz categories.
The Kisela Knights struggled early in the Blitz category after scoring only 3.5 with three boards settling for a tie.
Heading into the Rapid category, Iloilo stepped their game up and blew the match wide-open, 10-4, to grab the series win.
In their first game of PCAP Day 9, the Kisela Knights battled a more-determined San Juan team and lost, 13-8.
The split outing helped Iloilo maintain their third spot in the Southern Division with a record of 12-5 behind Camarines and Cordova.
