The Iloilo Kisela Knights are having their best start since joining the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP).
Aiming to repeat for another title, Iloilo just posted their eighth straight win with zero defeats in PCAP’s season-ending tournament San Miguel Corporation-Ayala Land Premier Association Cup.
The Kisela Knights crushed the Iriga City Oragons, 16-5, and the Lapu-Lapu City Naki Warriors, 15-5-5.5, to clinch top spot honors from both the North and South divisions.
Against Iriga, the ever-reliable veteran GM Rogelio Antonio Jr. put on a show once again after dictating Iloilo’s pace with his win in the first playing board of the Blitz category.
Everything then just fell in place as the Kisela Knights started with a 6-1 score and managed to dominate until the Rapid category to close the show in an emphatic fashion.
It was the same story against Lapu-Lapu as the Ilonggos blitzed their way in both the Blitz and Rapid category.
Iloilo never trailed against the Naki Warriors and carried their momentum from their confidence-boosting drubbing of Iriga.
With the sweeping win, Iloilo is currently the tournament’s no.1 team with an impressive 131.5 points followed by San Juan of the Northern division with 122 points.
