The city and province of Iloilo including other local government units (LGUs) which have been placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) are set to receive additional assistance from the national government.
This was confirmed by Mayor Jerry Treñas on Saturday after receiving a phone call from Senator Bong Go.
According to the mayor, the senator informed him that President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the assistance worth almost P4-billion for all LGUS affected by the ECQ.
“I would like to report to everyone that I received a call from Sen. Bong Go last night. He informed me that the President approved the assistance of almost P4-B for all the LGUs affected by the ECQ.”
The mayor said that the assistance will be distributed to the families affected by the ECQ and will be implemented immediately.
“Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will come up with a distribution plan for all the affected LGUs and start distribution right away. I will coordinate with Sec. Rolly Bautista so that they can implement right away,” he added.
DSWD 6 Regional Director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre has recently recommended additional cash assistance for the affected families under ECQ which is more responsive to the urgent needs of the people.
Some 86,000 qualified residents of Iloilo City can avail of the said cash assistance.
Both Iloilo City and Iloilo province have been placed under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) from July 16 until July 31, 2021. (ERS)
