Iloilo City police to install PHP 399,867 solar system

ILOILO CITY — The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) is preparing to partially shift to solar energy as part of its efforts to promote environmental sustainability and improve energy efficiency.
On Oct. 26, 2026, the ICPO, represented by Police Col. Wilbert Parilla, formalized its partnership with RC Solar Power Engineering Services for the installation of a solar power system at its headquarters.
Engineer Justine Calampinay Marquez, proprietor of RC Solar Power Engineering Services, signed the agreement on behalf of the company during a ceremony at the ICPO Function Room at Camp Achilles D. Plagata along General Luna Street, City Proper, Iloilo City.
Parilla said the contract signing marked the beginning of an initiative to harness renewable energy to support the ICPO’s operational requirements.
Once installed, the solar power system is expected to provide electricity for lighting at the ICPO headquarters and several essential offices, including the City Tactical Operations Center and the city director’s office.
The project has an estimated cost of PHP 399,867.
Parilla credited the Iloilo City Advisory Group for Police Transformation and Development (ICAG-PTD), “whose strong partnership and shared commitment to innovation and sustainability helped bring this initiative to fruition.”
The event was also attended by Francis Chu, representative of the information and communications technology (ICT) sector of ICAG-PTD; Lt. Col. Ricardo Jomuad Jr., ICPO deputy city director for administration; Maj. Warren M. Calzado of the ICPO Legal Office; members of the ICPO Command Group and staff; and other police personnel.
Parilla emphasized the importance of adopting sustainable practices in public service, particularly those that help reduce government operating expenses while protecting the environment.
“By embracing solar energy, we are not only reducing operational costs but also investing in a cleaner environment and more sustainable police service. Every step toward energy efficiency is a step toward a greener future for our personnel and the community we serve,” Parilla said.
The solar power initiative is expected to help reduce electricity expenses, improve power reliability during outages and promote more efficient energy consumption.
The project also supports ICPO Project TATAP, or Tulong, Aksyon at Pagkakaisa Para sa Kalikasan, an environmental protection initiative promoting collective action and responsible practices for a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
Launched on March 13, 2026, Project TATAP initially featured a mangrove-planting activity in Barangay Hinactacan, La Paz, as part of the police office’s environmental protection and climate resilience advocacy.
The solar power installation expands the ICPO’s sustainability initiatives from community-based environmental activities to energy conservation within its own facilities.
