Amid possible public demonstrations over anomalies in flood control projects, the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) reminded rallyists to abide by the law.
Col. Kim Legada, Iloilo City police chief, said protesters must comply with the “no permit, no rally” policy.
Legada assured the public of the ICPO’s commitment to uphold and respect human rights.
“While freedom of expression and peaceful assembly are guaranteed by law, these must be exercised responsibly and within legal boundaries,” he said.
He emphasized that assemblies without proper permits are considered unlawful.
The ICPO also urged organizers of any planned rallies or demonstrations to coordinate with its office, assuring them of assistance in processing permits so public assemblies can be conducted peacefully, orderly, and in designated areas.
“We recognize and respect the people’s right to express their sentiments. However, we strongly urge everyone to follow due process by securing permits,” Legada said.
The city police chief added that they are ready to assist to ensure gatherings remain safe, lawful, and respectful of everyone’s rights.
