Iloilo City police arrest alleged gun seller in sting

An alleged drug peddler was arrested following a police operation on June 12 in Arevalo district, Iloilo City.

But alias Dondon, 48, of Barangay Dungon B in Jaro district, was not apprehended for a drug-related offense.

Dondon was arrested following an entrapment operation in Barangay Sooc, Arevalo, over his alleged gunrunning activity.

Members of the Iloilo City Police Office-City Intelligence Unit arrested the suspect after he allegedly sold a .22-caliber revolver loaded with two rounds of ammunition.

Also confiscated during the operation were a black belt bag, a black leather pouch, and a coin purse.

Lt. Col. Donnel Regis, ICPO-CIU chief, said an informant tipped them off about a suspected drug personality who was allegedly selling a possible homemade firearm.

Dondon did not disclose where he got the gun, police said.

He claimed he needed money, which is why he was selling it.

Dondon is detained and faces charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Republic Act 10591 regulates firearms and ammunition in the Philippines and provides penalties for violations involving illegal firearms.

Meanwhile, Col. Wilbert Parilla, Iloilo City police chief, reiterated the ICPO’s commitment to keeping illegal firearms off the streets.

“Every illegal firearm recovered is a potential crime prevented. We will remain relentless in our efforts to remove loose firearms from our communities and hold violators accountable under the law,” Parilla said.

The ICPO also urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report information on illegal firearms activities, reinforcing the collective effort to maintain a peaceful and secure Iloilo City.

From May 1 to 31, 2026, the ICPO recovered 53 firearms and arrested four individuals in 53 separate operations conducted as part of its intensified campaign against loose firearms.
