The Iloilo City government opened the newly upgraded facilities at Plaza Libertad in the City Proper district on Monday, April 7.
The ceremony marked the launch of two outdoor gyms for senior citizens, a restored water fountain, and a renovated public restroom.
Mayor Jerry Treñas and Department of the Interior and Local Government Region 6 Director Juan Jovian Ingeniero led the event.
Treñas said the upgrades reflect the city’s continued efforts to enhance urban infrastructure and create more accessible public spaces.
He added that the outdoor gyms aim to help seniors stay healthy, active, and socially engaged.
The project also included the restoration of the plaza’s historic fountain, completed with the help of Eskwela Talyer, a group of artists specializing in heritage restoration.
A newly renovated comfort room was also unveiled as part of the initiative.
The improvements were funded in phases through the Local Government Support Fund.
