House Deputy Majority Leader and Iloilo City Rep. Julienne “Jam-Jam” Baronda met with Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon on Saturday at Iloilo International Port to discuss the proposed Iloilo North Coastal Road and Iloilo South Coastal Road.
The Department of Transportation has approved a PHP50-million budget for the feasibility study of the coastal road projects, which are included in the study on Panay Railway System’s revival. The study is funded through the General Appropriations Act.
The proposed North and South Coastal Road projects aim to decongest Iloilo City roads and connect the international port with seaports in the city.
The roads would create an alternative network linking the ports to nearby towns, improving connectivity and access to transport goods, which could boost the regional economy.
Joining the discussion were DOTR undersecretaries, Land Transportation Office-Region 6 Director Gaudioso Geduspan, LTO-6 Assistant Regional Director Jeck Conlu, and former Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.
