Iloilo City will host its first public recycling rewards pop-up on May 23–24, 2026, as Rezbin brings a two-day sustainability activation to the Riverside Kiosks at Boardwalk Iloilo in Mandurriao.
The event, called Sunset Recycling Iloilo, will run from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is open to individuals, families, students and the general public.
Organizations, schools, barangays and communities may also join the activity.
Groups bringing 30 or more members may be featured as community partners on Rezbin’s social media pages, while interested groups may coordinate through the Rezbin Facebook page.
Rezbin describes itself as a smart recycling platform that helps businesses, communities and public spaces make recycling more accessible, measurable and rewarding through technology-driven waste recovery systems.
Sunset Recycling Iloilo aims to turn recycling into a more engaging, rewarding and community-centered experience for Ilonggos.
Participants may bring recyclables from home, earn points through the Rezbin app, join fair-style games and activities, convert points into rewards or raffle entries, and experience “smart recycling” firsthand.
Accepted recyclables must be clean and free of residue.
These include plastic bottles, plastic food containers, shampoo and bleach bottles, aluminum cans for soft drinks, tin cans for canned goods, paper, cardboard, boxes, used beverage cartons such as tetrapacks and milk boxes, and soft plastics such as wrappers and bubble wrap.
To join, participants must download the Rezbin app and bring recyclables to the event.
Recyclables will be scanned for individual submissions or weighed for bulk submissions.
Participants will earn digital points that may be used for raffle entries, rewards redemption, games and bonus activities.
Raffle prizes include PHP 500 gift certificates from Decathlon, Grab and Mercury Drug.
Rewards may also be redeemed through more than 500 merchant stores nationwide.
Organizers said participants can earn more points by bringing more recyclables.
The event will feature recycling rewards, music, games and activities, raffle prizes, photobooth and social sharing areas, sustainability education, and smart recycling demonstrations.
The initiative seeks to encourage proper waste segregation, make recycling more accessible and rewarding, introduce smart recycling to the Iloilo community, show that recyclables have value, and promote stronger community participation in sustainability.
Organizers said the event is different because it combines recycling, digital rewards, gamified engagement, public participation and sustainability education in one community pop-up.
Sunset Recycling Iloilo is also intended as a pilot for recurring monthly recycling activations in Iloilo.
The initiative is supported and funded through the European Union Green Economy Programme in the Philippines.
The program is spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, co-led by the Department of the Interior and Local Government, and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme Philippines.
Rezbin may be reached through Facebook, Instagram and TikTok at @rezbin.ph, or through its website.
