Iloilo Capitol Unveils P4.8M Christmas Village

The Iloilo Provincial Capitol will brighten the holiday season with its annual Christmas Village, set to open on December 6, 2024.

With the theme “Christmas Village sa Makabagong Pilipinas,” the provincial government allocated PHP 4.8 million to enhance the decorations and create a festive atmosphere on the capitol grounds.

Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. highlighted the Christmas Village as a key attraction for domestic tourism, aiming to position Iloilo as a top holiday destination.

“We want to level up this year because we want Iloilo to be recognized nationwide as a destination where families and children can come together to experience the spirit of Christmas,” Defensor said during a press conference on November 22.

He added that the enhanced Christmas Village will provide a memorable experience for children and families while supporting the local economy.

“Good tourism leads to a strong economy—it generates business. Our goal is to increase tourist arrivals. When tourists visit, they spend money, and that directly benefits our local economy. In practical terms, that’s how we view it,” he explained.

The Christmas Village will feature several attractions and activities, including a lantern parade, a fireworks display, and events for families and children.

Visitors can look forward to unique attractions within the village, while the nearby Food Festival, located beside the Regional Museum, will offer culinary delights for all to enjoy.

Defensor emphasized the Christmas Village as a joyful space for Ilonggos and tourists alike.

“It’s about making meaningful memories while promoting Iloilo’s identity as a festive, family-friendly destination,” he said.

Last year, the province launched a Disney-themed Christmas lights display, which attracted nearly a thousand Ilonggos on its opening day. The event cost the provincial government PHP 2.88 million, covering new lights, decorations, and labor.
