The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has imposed a strict ban on online gambling for all officials and employees of local government units (LGUs), warning of administrative and criminal consequences for violators.
In a memorandum addressed to Iloilo Governor Arthur R. Defensor Jr. dated August 19, DILG Provincial Director Engr. Carmelo F. Orbista relayed Memorandum Circular No. 2025-082 issued by Secretary Juanito Victor C. Remulla on August 12.
The directive, titled “Prohibition Against Accessing Online Gambling Platforms and/or Engaging in Online Gambling,” outlines a zero-tolerance policy for gambling among public servants.
The order applies to all officials and employees at the provincial, city, municipal, and barangay levels, explicitly stating that they are “strictly prohibited from accessing online gambling platforms or engaging in any form of online gambling.”
The circular warns that any violation will result in administrative sanctions and/or criminal charges in accordance with existing laws, rules, and regulations.
The DILG issued the directive as part of its commitment to reinforce accountability, discipline, and integrity within the government.
Governor Defensor formally received the directive at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol on September 1.
All LGU heads across Iloilo province have been instructed to disseminate the order and ensure strict compliance among their personnel.
