Three barangays in Iloilo received a total of PHP 4.5 million in financial assistance from the provincial government on January 27 to support the installation of hybrid on/off-grid photovoltaic (PV) solar-powered systems.
Governor Arthur R. Defensor Jr .along with Fourth District Board Member Rolando B. Distura and officials of the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PGENRO) – Energy Efficiency and Conservation Desk headed by the office’s head, Atty. Cesar Emmanuelle P. Buyco, Jr., led the distribution of ₱1.5 million each to Barangay Bagongbong in Dueñas and Barangays Ilaya 1st and P. D. Monfort South in Dumangas.
The funds were sourced from the province’s renewable energy subsidy fund.
Barangay captains and treasurers received the checks facilitated by the PGENRO-EEC Desk representatives Rey Victor Garin and Leiden Lyka V. Anonoy.
According to the provincial government, the fund transfer serves as financial assistance to local government units for the completion of their proposed renewable energy projects.
These projects form part of efforts to comply with the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP) under Republic Act 11285, or the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act of 2019.
The solar projects are expected to support barangay operations while promoting sustainable and cost-efficient energy solutions at the community level.
