The Iloilo Kisela Knights notched a 2-0 sweep on Day 10 of the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) tournament.
The Iloilo-based chess team bounced back from Day 9’s split matches and was eager to get the number one spot in the Southern Division standings.
First, the Kisela Knights defeated one of the toughest teams of the Northern Division in Pasig after edging them by just two points, 11.5-9.5.
It was a tied game in the Blitz category as both teams were deadlocked at 3.5 but three consecutive wins by the Ilonggos in the Rapid category gave them the lead which allowed them the win.
In the second match, the Kisela Knights crushed Quezon City Simba’s Tribe, 18.5-2.5.
It was Iloilo’s biggest win of the season so far, including a sweep of the Rapid category in all seven playing boards.
Quezon only managed to win a total of two boards against the Kisela Knights, all in the Blitz category.
The Day 10 sweep put Iloilo back at the top of the Southern Division, sharing top spot honors with the Negros Kingsmen with an identical record of 16-3.
