The Iloilo Provincial Government has allocated PHP 3.5 million this year to bring a festive holiday experience to Ilonggos as the Capitol gears up for its annual Christmas lighting ceremony on Dec. 5.
This year’s theme, “Candyland,” aims to provide a magical experience for families and visitors alike.
Preparations are ongoing, with final touches being made to decorations and installations for the celebration.
Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. earlier said the annual event continues to serve as a key attraction for domestic tourism.
The opening ceremony is expected to feature a fireworks display and a Christmas food festival for attendees.
Festivities also include the Candyland Christmas Bazaar 2025, which runs from Dec. 1 to 21 at the Capitol grounds.
Visitors can browse handmade crafts, toys, clothing, caricature drawings, unique gifts, and enjoy treats like cotton candy and popcorn.
The bazaar also supports local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by providing them a platform to showcase their products.
In addition, the provincial government will host open-air film screenings from the SINEstorya Student Film Festival of Tigbauan National High School on Dec. 5, 12, and 19.
The screenings will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the park near the National Museum of the Philippines – Iloilo (Old Provincial Jail).
Featured short films include Paghugna, Pangimon, Himurat, Indis Indis, Lawod, Manggad, and Pitik.
Attendees are encouraged to bring mats and enjoy food from the festival while watching the films.
Last year’s Christmas Village had a budget allocation of PHP 4.8 million.
