The Iloilo City Police Office-Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Unit (ICPO-TIEU) launched a hotline number for motorists to quickly report traffic incidents and road crashes.
Lieutenant Colonel Ethan Estaya, TIEU chief, said the ICPO’s traffic unit could be reached through mobile number 0981-809-0723.
Estaya said they initiated having their own hotline number for faster reporting of traffic-related incidents.
Before, reports of road crashes and similar incidents are being coursed through the City Tactical Operations Center (CTOC).
The CTOC will then determine the TIEU Station that will respond to the incident.
“The response is not really immediate because of the channels that the call would go through,” Estaya said.
The delay, he said, could more likely cause traffic congestion.
With a mobile hotline number, he said that the response would be immediate.
The ICPO TIEU has recorded 410 traffic-related incidents from Jan. 1 to Feb.21, 2023.
They resulted in three deaths.
On the other hand, there were 490 traffic-related incidents from Jan. 1 to Feb.21, 2022, that resulted in four deaths.
