ILOILO CITY — The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has strengthened coordination with government agencies and other stakeholders as part of its campaign to promote animal welfare.
The initiative forms part of the Philippine National Police’s heightened campaign to enforce animal welfare laws and strengthen police action against animal cruelty.
To advance its commitment to animal protection and welfare, ICPO conducted a seminar themed “Strengthening Animal Protection: Current Policy Shifts in the Animal Welfare Act.”
Held Oct. 8 at the ICPO Function Hall, the activity brought together police personnel, local government representatives and animal welfare stakeholders.
Participants discussed strengthened policies, proper enforcement and interagency cooperation in promoting animal welfare and protection.
Lt. Col. Kitt Flora, chief of the City Administrative Management Unit, represented ICPO Director Col. Wilbert Parilla.
Councilor Allan Zaldivar delivered a special message on behalf of Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas-Chu.
Maj. Warren Calzado, ICPO legal officer, discussed the relevant legal framework on animal welfare.
Andrew Murray Durano of the Office of the City Veterinarian facilitated the succeeding discussions.
Durano discussed the Iloilo City Animal Welfare Ordinance and the PAWtect Program.
Noel Rosbero, regional animal welfare officer of the Department of Agriculture 6, discussed animal welfare enforcement and Republic Act No. 10631, including its recent amendments.
Parilla said the seminar reinforced ICPO personnel’s awareness and understanding of animal welfare laws.
“Through proper enforcement and strong partnerships, we can better protect animals and promote a more responsible community,” he added.
Through the initiative, ICPO reaffirmed its commitment to supporting animal protection, strengthening law enforcement partnerships and promoting a safer, more responsible and compassionate community in Iloilo City.
