ICPO seizes 242 guns in loose firearms drive

Hundreds of firearms were recovered in the Iloilo City Police Office’s intensified campaign against loose firearms in the first six months of 2026.

From Jan. 1 to June 30, different ICPO units seized 242 firearms and 17 explosives.

Police also arrested 23 individuals during 238 citywide operations during the period.

Of the 242 recovered firearms, 156 were voluntarily surrendered, 60 were deposited for safekeeping, and 26 were confiscated during police operations.

Iloilo City Police Station 3 recorded the highest number of accomplishments with 25.

ICPS1 and ICPS6 recorded 24 each, followed by ICPS5 with 22, ICPS2 with 21, and the Iloilo City Mobile Force Company, ICPS4, and ICPS7 with 20 each.

ICPS9 and ICPS10 recorded 18 accomplishments each, while the City Intelligence Unit had six and the City Drug Enforcement Unit contributed four.

Col. Wilbert Parilla, Iloilo City police chief, said the recovery of 242 firearms and 17 explosives showed the potential harm these weapons could cause if they fall into the wrong hands or are used irresponsibly.

“This accomplishment strengthens our resolve to rid our communities of loose firearms and explosives,” Parilla said.

He said their operations would remain relentless as he appealed to the public to continue working with the Philippine National Police in its shared mission to eradicate loose firearms and keep Iloilo City safe, secure, and peaceful.

Loose firearms refer to unregistered firearms, firearms with expired licenses, or weapons possessed by persons without legal authority.

Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, regulates the ownership, possession, carrying, manufacture, dealing, and importation of firearms, ammunition, and firearm parts in the Philippines.
