The Iloilo City Police Office described the opening of classes in the metropolis as “peaceful and orderly.”
In a press statement, the ICPO said it recorded zero major incidents, which “reflects the effectiveness of the security and public safety measures implemented under Oplan Balik Eskwela 2026.”
The Department of Education set June 8 as the opening of school year 2026-2027, while the Philippine National Police deployed more than 55,000 security personnel and force multipliers nationwide for the return of students to schools.
Police Col. Wilbert Parilla, Iloilo City police chief, said the deployment of police personnel in schools, major thoroughfares, transport terminals, and other convergence areas across Iloilo City was a major factor in the smooth first day of classes.
“Through heightened police visibility, we have ensured the safety and security of students, teachers, parents, and school personnel,” he said.
Based on monitoring by the Iloilo City Tactical Operations Center from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 8, no major incidents or crimes were reported.
To maintain peace and order in school zones, police assistance desks, visibility patrols, traffic management assistance, and intensified anti-criminality operations were conducted in coordination with school authorities, barangay officials, force multipliers, and other partner agencies.
ICPO personnel also assisted students in crossing streets, monitored traffic flow, and immediately responded to public concerns.
“The peaceful and orderly opening of classes reflects the strong cooperation among the police, schools, local government units, parents, and the community. The ICPO remains committed to ensuring the safety of our learners and maintaining public order throughout the school year,” Parilla said.
The ICPO also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with authorities by reporting suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.
