The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) destroyed prohibited items confiscated from frisking points set up in designated Dinagyang Festival activity areas.
Lt. Col. Lorenz Losaria, ICPO deputy city director for operations, led the ceremonial destruction of 687 seized items on Jan. 27 at the ICPO headquarters in Camp Achilles Plagata, Gen. Luna Street, City Proper, Iloilo City.
The items were collected from Pedestrian Screening Areas (PSAs) during the two-day festival highlights on Jan. 24 and 25.
Confiscated items included 250 ballpens, 139 vapes, 126 packs of cigarettes, 114 lighters, and 58 bladed objects.
Losaria said the proactive security measures significantly contributed to the peaceful, safe, and orderly conduct of the Dinagyang celebration.
He added that the disposal of these items aligns with ICPO’s commitment to public safety and preventive policing, especially during large-scale events.
The effort also supports the government’s smoke-free advocacy, reinforcing Dinagyang’s image as a safe, healthy, and family-friendly celebration.
“This sends a clear message that Dinagyang can be enjoyed without illegal and prohibited items. Our goal is to protect everyone and prevent incidents before they happen,” Losaria said.
He also acknowledged the public’s cooperation, which he said played a vital role in the festival’s success.
The event was attended by Lt. Col. Lindley Barrientos, ICPO deputy city director for administration; Lt. Col. Jereme Belo, City Operations and Management Unit chief; Lt. Col. Rene Obregon, Mobile Patrol Unit chief; Lt. Col. Neil Gumana, Iloilo City Mobile Force Company commander; and other officers and station commanders.
Losaria reiterated the ICPO’s commitment to maintaining strict security during major public gatherings while promoting safe, smoke-free, and orderly festivities for the community.
