Following the series of tryouts conducted in Iloilo City by different schools, Hua Siong College of Iloilo (HSCI) will also host a basketball tryout for young aspirants at the Gatuslao Gymnasium in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental today, April 1, 2019.
According to Red Phoenix assistant coach Rey Ann Taocta Tupas, the team is looking for trainable cagers in preparation for their basketball tournaments later this year.
Hua Siong, a many-time champion in local basketball tournaments, previously represented Western Visayas in the Palarong Pambansa.
They are the source of notable Negrense players who are currently playing in Manila. Among the Red Phoenixs notable players from Negros were Escalante City native James Yap of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and La Carlotas Mark Nonoy, who plays for University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers in the UAAP.
Another Red Phoenix player who was recruited from Negros was Himamaylan City native Reynold Tupas, who is being eyed by the UST Tiger Cubs for next years UAAP season.
