The top-ranked high school basketball player in the Philippines is set to fly to the United States and make a name for himself.
Kieffer Alas, the main gunner of the De La Salle-Zobel HS hoops program, will not pursue the next step of his career in the Philippines and is reportedly heading to a U.S.-based Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) team, announced on May 6, 2025.
Multiple reports already confirmed his move, a month after Alas and the DLSZ Greenies failed to advance to the playoffs of the NCAA juniors basketball tournament.
The son of decorated coach Louie Alas is entering the final year of his high school career before playing in the collegiate ranks, but it is yet to be determined whether the 17-year-old prospect will stay in the U.S. for good or return home for his tertiary playing years.
As of this writing, Alas has yet to receive any offers from a Division I NCAA program, but his spot in a certain AAU club is already secured.
Before suiting up for his AAU team, Alas will first undergo intensive training in Australia and will spend some time with NBL1 West franchise Warwick Senators.
