ROXAS CITY, Capiz— A hospital staff who took care of a 30-year-old person under investigation(PUI) at the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital is under quarantine after the patient died of heart ailment Thursday last week.
Provincial Health Officer I Dr. Leah Del Rosario said the hospital worker is under 14-day quarantine as part of preventive measure against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
According to the attending physician, the PUI died of Acute Pulmonary Edema secondary to Congestive Heart Failure secondary to Cardiomyopathy.
The man came from Manila on March 15, 2020 on board a passenger ship. He was taken to the hospital the following day after suffering from cough and flu and was classified as a PUI due to his travel history.
The hospital sent his blood sample to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Manila for testing.
The barangay where he lives was reportedly under lockdown to monitor the residents’ health. The hospital where he was confined is also being monitored.
Meanwhile, 9 out of 29 persons under investigation (PUI) were found negative for the virus.
Based on the data of the Provincial Health Office, 12 are under home quarantine and 8 are in hospitals.
The province has 3,296 persons under monitoring or those with no signs and symptoms but travelled to infected areas.
