ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The city government here on Monday praised a tricycle driver for returning to the owner a sling bag containing P180,000 cash.
A certificate of commendation was given to tricycle driver Melvin Lumbo, 35, of Barangay Baybay here.
Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas gave the commendation during the regular Monday flag raising ceremony at the Roxas City Hall.
Aside from the certificate of commendation, a pack of grocery was also given to Lumbo.
The mayor also gave Lumbo a regular job at the city government because of his honesty.
Lumbo brought the sling bag left by a passenger at his tricycle to the Roxas City police station. It contained two smartphones, a pocket wifi, and P180,000 cash.
The tricycle driver later met the lady owner of the sling bag at the police station when she was about to report her missing bag.
According to Lumbo, he did not think of keeping the money for himself because he believed that the owner needed the cash and it is never good to enrich oneself in dishonest ways.
