HOME OF TOPNOTCHERS: WVSU continues to ace licensure exams

WEST Visayas State University (WVSU) Campus in La Paz district again proved why it is the “Home of Topnotchers” after producing 12 topnotchers in the licensure exam for nurses.

Almira Louise Hinsoy of WVSU landed on the top spot with an 87.40 percent rating. She shared the No. 1 slot with Jeremiah Paula Caceres of Angeles University Foundation.

The other WVSU graduates who made it to the top 10 are:

• Dennise Kim Marie Luig (87. 20 percent);
• Michaelle Christiane Con-El (87 percent);
• Gerone Marie Saquian, Shaniah Grace Condag, and Joseph Dann Enero, Kaila Mae Laurete Macairan (86.80 percent);
• Thomas Benroe Supena (86.20 percent);
• Jenrose Victor Buenvenida (85.80 percent);
• Rona Jane Lanzuela (85.80 percent);
• Tristan James Amaguin and Angel Mae Malones (85.60 percent).

WVSU also scored a 100 percent passing rate in the board examination.

This is the fifth time that WVSU secured a 100 percent rating in the board examination (2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019).

The school has also been acing various board exams such as Physicians Licensure Exam and Licensure Exam for Teachers (LET).

WVSU president Luis Sorolla Jr. said that there are several factors why the school continues to produce topnotchers in various board exams.

For one, Sorolla attributed the success to their selective admission policy.

“There are several factors dira, number one is selective admission policy. We are conducting a rigid selection and screening process that is why we only admit those who really are academically performing,” he said.

Another factor, according to Sorolla, is the instruction where they ensure that students are provided with excellent knowledge and skills.

“Secondly, ang aton instruction, ang curriculum ta improved gid and our teachers are equipped with outstanding academic experience,” he explained.

He added that the presence of the West Visayas State University Medical Center is also a huge help in developing the skills of the students.

“Through the hospital, they can have a firsthand experience on how the actual thing works. They can enhance their knowledge and skills,” he said.

According to Sorolla, they have been trying their best to provide the best educational opportunity for their students.

“WVSU, with its tagline as the ‘Home of the Topnotchers’ and branding ‘Where excellence is a tradition’, has been trying its best halin sang una to provide the best educational opportunity sa mga students that is why ginahatagan naton gid sila sang mayo nga instruction, hoping that someday they would be able to return it back to our country, in terms of the services that they can provide to our people  and  the economic development that they are able to facilitate for the country,” he said.

A total of 5,059 out of 9,691 examinees were able to pass the board exams for nurses, according to Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

The PRC’s Board of Nursing administered the examination in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Pagadian, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga this month. (With a report from Jennifer Ponsaran-Rendon)
