Holcim Philippines has partnered with artist and entrepreneur Champ Lui Pio to promote sustainable building practices in La Union.
The collaboration was formalized through a memorandum of agreement signed on April 22, 2025, centered on ALPAS La Union, an emerging eco-friendly initiative in Barangay Pandan, Bacnotan.
As part of the partnership, Holcim will supply its low-carbon Excel ECOPlanet cement for the construction of a graffiti wall that promotes both art and sustainability.
“This collaboration goes beyond supply and demand,” said Sajith Edirisuriya, Head of Commercial at Holcim Philippines.
“It is about aligning with individuals who share our values on building greener, more sustainable communities. Champ and his team at ALPAS exemplify that vision,” he added.
Holcim will also provide technical support to ensure that builders working on the project can deliver high-quality results using its environmentally friendly products.
The initiative reflects Holcim’s broader efforts to integrate sustainability into construction while supporting local creativity and entrepreneurship.
Champ Lui Pio, formerly the frontman of the band Hale, has turned to eco-entrepreneurship through ALPAS La Union, a site known for its advocacy of environmental preservation and sustainable tourism.
Holcim Philippines operates cement manufacturing plants across the country, including in La Union, Bulacan, Misamis Oriental, and Davao.
These facilities are certified under ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management, ISO 9001:2015 for quality, and OHSAS 45001:2018 for occupational health and safety.
In a related development, Holcim is investing PHP 370 million to increase the La Union plant’s use of low-carbon alternative fuels and raw materials to 40 percent by late 2025.
The company’s decarbonization roadmap also includes expanding the use of blended cement, adopting renewable energy, and improving operational efficiencies.
