BACOLOD CITY — Police are investigating the death of an unidentified man whose body was found wrapped in packaging tape beside a sugarcane field in Purok Langka, Barangay Pacol, Bago City, Negros Occidental, on Thursday.
Police Lt. Col. James Latayon, chief of the Bago City Police Station, said sugarcane workers found the body past 10 a.m.
Latayon said the victim’s hands and feet were hogtied, and he sustained head injuries.
Police have yet to determine the cause of the injuries.
The victim, believed to be 30 to 40 years old, was wearing a white T-shirt and jeans.
He had tattoos on his right arm and hand and was believed to be about 5 feet, 5 inches tall.
Latayon declined to speculate on whether the victim was summarily executed.
However, he said the victim may have been dumped in the area and killed elsewhere because there was no indication that the crime happened at the scene.
He said the body may have been left in the area for about two days.
Latayon said no missing person had been reported in the city.
He said police are coordinating with neighboring police stations to check for missing person reports.
Latayon said some individuals inquired after learning about the incident, but no one had formally identified or claimed the remains as of this writing.
Bago City, located south of Bacolod, has vast sugarcane areas, where farmworkers often pass through fields during work hours.
