BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Placeda Lemana said on Monday that Provincial Ordinance 2019-024 will be imposed after the detection of Asian Swine Fever (ASF) in Negros Oriental.
The ordinance prohibits swine and related products from areas with positive cases of ASF.
Earlier, Dauin Mayor Galicano Truita in Negros Oriental issued an executive order temporarily banning the entry and exit of swine, including fresh and frozen pork products, as well as suspension of swine-related activities in the town.
This, as ASF cases were detected in Dauin as reported by the Agriculture Department’s Bureau of Animal Industry.
While swine from Negros Oriental is banned in Negros Occidental due to ASF, swine from Negros Occidental is also banned in Negros Oriental due to hog cholera.
The PVO’s latest record indicated that 4,308 pigs died from hog cholera, mostly in the 4th district.
Truita also ordered the municipal ASF task force to immediately cull the hogs in Puroks 1 and 2 in Brgy. Maayong Tubig, Dauin and within a 500-meter radius.
Truita’s executive order took effect on May 20.
Negros Occidental remains ASF-free as of this time, as confirmed by the Department of Agriculture.
The province has been on heightened alert ever since the detection of ASF cases in Panay, Guimaras, Cebu, and now in Negros Oriental.
