BACOLOD City – Himamaylan City in Negros Occidental will soon be home to a new standard two-story Philippine National Police (PNP) building.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the P25-million PNP building took place last Tuesday, led by city officials including Mayor Raymund Tongson, alongside the police force directed by Police Brigadier General Jack Wanky, acting director of Police Regional Office (PRO)6.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Grande, the city police chief, confirmed that the PNP is funding the project.
Grande noted that construction will begin immediately following the groundbreaking, with completion targeted within a year.
The new police station is set to be located on a 2,000-square-meter lot donated by the city government in Barangay Talaban. Grande mentioned it is roughly 300 meters from the current police station, which is adjacent to the City Hall.
He elaborated that the standard PNP building will feature a roof deck and will accommodate various offices and a large detention facility, capable of housing 25 detainees.
This is a significant improvement over the current station, which can only accommodate 15 detainees, Grande added.
He said the development will provide a comfortable environment for the police to carry out their duties due to the ample space in each office.
In a statement, Wanky acknowledged the groundbreaking ceremony as a reflection of the fortified relationship among the PNP, local government units (LGUs), and the community.
“This would not be possible without the help of all of you,” he stated, extending his gratitude for the consistent support provided to the PNP.
Wanky pledged ongoing commitment to securing the city’s safety, which is essential for its progress and the peace and order that every Himamaylan resident deserves.
PRO-6 regards this development as a critical step in advancing law enforcement capabilities in Himamaylan City, paving the way for improved operational efficiency and effectiveness in serving and protecting the local community.
The occasion was also graced by Vice Mayor Justin Gatuslao, and officials from the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) led by Police Colonel Rainerio De Chavez, acting provincial director.
