A high-value drug surrenderee was arrested in Balasan, Iloilo, following a successful buy-bust operation that led to the seizure of approximately 67 grams of suspected shabu, police reported.
The suspect, known by the alias “Ju,” is a 30-year-old jobless resident of Balasan. He was apprehended around 1:55 p.m. on Dec. 21 in Barangay Poblacion Norte. According to authorities, he had previously surrendered under the government’s anti-drug campaign but was later confirmed to have resumed illegal drug activities.
The Balasan Municipal Police Station (MPS) conducted nearly two months of intelligence gathering and surveillance before confirming Ju’s continued involvement in the narcotics trade. He had been classified as a high-value individual (HVI) due to his profile and operations.
Recovered from the scene were four transparent plastic sachets containing a white crystalline substance believed to be shabu, along with buy-bust money and various non-drug items.
“I commend the Balasan MPS for the successful conduct of the buy-bust operation. This accomplishment reflects your dedication to duty and your genuine care and concern for the community,” said Police Brigadier General Josefinio D. Ligan, the top officer of Police Regional Office 6. “Rest assured that PRO6 will not rest on its laurels and will continue to intensify efforts to eliminate the drug menace in the region.”
The suspected shabu has an estimated street value that could reach millions in Philippine pesos. However, the exact market price was not disclosed by authorities.
The arrested suspect is now in police custody and will face charges for violating Sections 5 and 11 of Article II of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Under the law, Section 5 refers to the sale or trading of dangerous drugs, while Section 11 addresses possession. Penalties include life imprisonment to death and a fine ranging from PHP 500,000 to PHP 10,000,000.
