A Grade 12 student died, and his 15-year-old companion was injured after their motorcycle overshot a curve early Sunday, Feb. 16, in San Dionisio, Iloilo.
Police identified the fatality only as alias Peter, 17, a resident of Barangay Amayong, San Dionisio.
His backrider, Jo, 15, a Grade 10 student from the same village, sustained injuries.
Capt. Edward Villanis, San Dionisio police chief, said the teenagers were heading home from a wake in Barangay Amayong when they crashed in Barangay Bagacay around 1:10 a.m.
As they negotiated a curve, they lost control and slammed into a roadside railing.
Peter was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in a rice field about two meters below the roadside.
Both victims were rushed to Sara District Hospital, but Peter was declared dead on arrival.
Jo was later transferred to a hospital in Iloilo City for further treatment.
Barangay tanods claimed the teenagers were speeding when the accident happened.
They were also not wearing helmets.
Police said Peter did not have a driver’s license, and the motorcycle was unregistered.
