Games today (Saturday)
City of Passi Arena, Iloilo City
4 p.m. – ZUS Coffee vs. Creamline
6:30 p.m. – Chery Tiggo vs. Cignal
Expect fireworks as unbeaten squads Cignal and Chery Tiggo clash today for Pool B supremacy and the first outright quarterfinal berth in the PVL On Tour at the City of Passi Arena in Iloilo province.
Cignal holds a 3-0 record, while Chery Tiggo sits at 2-0, setting up a high-stakes 6:30 p.m. showdown that feels like a playoff preview in this preseason tournament organized by Sports Vision.
With momentum and playoff positioning on the line, the match promises a no-holds-barred battle between two of the league’s hottest teams.
Iloilo, a regular PVL out-of-town stop known for its heritage churches and world-class jusi and piña fabrics, is expected to once again welcome an electric, jampacked crowd.
The action begins at 4 p.m., as Creamline (2-1) looks to bounce back from a stunning straight-set loss to Cignal when it faces ZUS Coffee (1-1) in the opener.
The Cool Smashers aim to regain their rhythm against a ZUS squad eager to prove it belongs in the title conversation.
Both Chery Tiggo and ZUS Coffee are coming off a 12-day break, which gave them time to recharge and recalibrate ahead of this weekend’s crucial matches.
Despite missing top scorer and Alas Pilipinas standout Vanie Gandler, Cignal has been on a tear.
The HD Spikers stunned Creamline behind new recruits Erika Santos and Tin Tiamzon, along with rookie Erin Pangilinan.
Veterans Ishie Lalongisip, Roselyn Aquino, Jackie Acuña, Heather Guino-o and playmaker Gel Cayuna have provided a balanced mix of offense and defense.
Chery Tiggo, meanwhile, has impressed in wins over Capital1 and Akari.
Coach Norman Miguel has relied on strong performances from rookies Renee Penafiel and Jyne Soreno, returning middle blocker Imee Hernandez, and veterans Cess Robles, Ara Galang, Shaya Adorador and Pauline Gaston.
With both teams in peak form, expect a tactical, high-octane match featuring strategic adjustments and individual brilliance.
Meanwhile, the Cool Smashers remain a formidable contender with stars Michele Gumabao, Jema Galanza, Alyssa Valdez, Lorie Bernardo and rookie Sheena Toring leading the charge.
They aim to shake off their lone loss and reassert their dominance in the tournament.
ZUS Coffee, led by veterans Jovelyn Gonzaga, Chai Troncoso, and Fiola Ceballos, is backed by a promising young core that includes Alexa Miner, Mycah Go, Kate Santiago and Chinnie Arroyo.
The Thunderbelles are determined to prove they belong among the league’s elite, and an upset over Creamline would send that message loud and clear.
The intensity continues Sunday with Cignal facing ZUS Coffee at 4 p.m., followed by the highly anticipated Creamline–Chery Tiggo showdown at 6:30 p.m.
The tight turnaround will test the teams’ depth, conditioning and mental toughness as they push for playoff positioning in this competitive preseason tour.
