Unbeaten teams Cignal and Akari are set to compete in today’s matches at the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference at the Philsports Arena. Both teams aim to secure victories before their highly anticipated face-off on Tuesday.
The HD Spikers, led by Venezuelan wing spiker MJ Perez, Ces Molina, and Jackie Acuna, will face the two-time champions Petro Gazz Angels at 1 p.m. Cignal head coach Shaq delos Santos emphasizes the need to respect their opponents despite Petro Gazz’s recent struggles.
“Of course, another win is a big help,” said delos Santos. “It’s more about recovery, and we have three days to study them. Knowing Petro Gazz, we will give them the respect they deserve, but we also need to deliver an even stronger fight.”
Petro Gazz, featuring reigning All-Filipino Conference MVP Brooke Van Sickle and Cuban opposite hitter Wilma Salas, is looking to bounce back after losses to the Solar Spikers and the Chargers.
At 3 p.m., Choco Mucho and Capital1 will break their 1-2 tie with the Flying Titans clashing with the Solar Spikers.
The final match of the day will see the Chargers face a winless ZUS Coffee side at 5 p.m.
Akari coach Taka Minowa aims for early control to avoid another protracted battle following their recent back-to-back five-set matches.
American opposite spiker Oly Okaro, the tournament’s leading scorer with 85 points, is expected to lead the Chargers alongside Grethcel Soltones, Ivy Lacsina, and others.
The next match between Cignal and Akari is scheduled for Tuesday, August 6, promising a thrilling duel between two top teams.
Games will be broadcast live on Pilipinas Live, RPTV, One Sports, One Sports+, and pvl.ph.
