BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson on Monday said that he is joining senior citizens in availing the COVID-19 vaccination.
Earlier, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia got his first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine, following an advisory from the National COVID-19 Vaccination Operations Center allowing the vaccination of local chief executives in critical and high risk provinces, cities and municipalities.
Negros Occidental has been classified as a high-risk area by the Department of Health-Western Visayas.
Lacson, who is waiting a go signal for vaccination from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, said he is willing to take Sinovac doses.
“I’m more than convinced already that the vaccine is good,” he said.
With Sinovac readily available, Lacson said he will go for it, since the second jab is three weeks after, while the AstraZeneca is taking too much time.
He added that the AstraZeneca vaccines ordered by local government units may arrive in July.
Meanwhile, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said that the vaccination schedule for senior citizens in Negros Occidental will depend on the supply of doses from the national government.
Currently, the vaccines being given by the provincial government is for those classified as A1 priority or medical frontliners, Diaz said.
So far only Escalante City Mayor Melecio Yap is the first local chief executive in the province who got vaccinated with anti-COVID 19 vaccine.
